Time was such an odd thing, everyone wanted more of it, or for it to stand still completely. How strange it was that every living being on the planet had at one time or another wished that time were doing something different. Time wasn't physical, you couldn't see it, couldn't hear it or touch it, but everyone wanted to possess it in some shape or form.
For Edea, time was another matter altogether. She no longer cared for it, no longer counted away the minutes of her existence. She wished she didn't understand it the way that she did, Ultimecia's mind was consumed by time and her hunger to own it, to call it her own.
Since Ultimecia had relinquished her hold over her, she had returned to her home, the Orphanage she had opened to the lost children of the Sorceress war. All traces of time had been destroyed here, no longer could she hear the insistent ticking of a clock, reminding her that with each tick, her life was slipping away.
She watched as the sun rose over the waters that surrounded her isolated home, hugging herself in a vain attempt to fight off the morning chill. There was a soft breeze tugging at her clothes as she stood near the shoreline, the spray of the early morning tide lightly dusting her skin.
How long had it been since she had set up home here, since Squall and the others had arrived and subsequently left to train at Garden? A soft, humourless laugh escaped her lips. No matter how hard you tried, you really couldn't escape time, it was always lurking in the shadows, waiting to remind you of it's presence, to make you question how long it had been lying in wait to call it forth from the darkness.
A part of Edea could see why Ultimecia had been so obsessed with compressing time, with making it stand completely still, with her the only living thing in the vast, timeless eternity. How lonely it would have been, just your thoughts and the abyss of eternity staring back at you.
A chill ran up her spine, it could have been her body that she inhabited if she had obtained her goal, never to see her husband, her children. No, it was best not to dwell on such things. All of her children had grown up and made new path's in their lives, no longer needed her. Tucking a few stray strands of raven hair behind her ear, she smiled as the sun came into full view, it's rays kissing her skin with warmth. Before she turned to head back inside the house, she silently called out to her children, told them that she would always be here, no matter how much time had passed, she would always be there for them, should they ever need her.
A prompt I wrote for my Edea Role Play account on tumblr.
